2008 – 2013

As one of the design leaders at Markit, I was placed in charge of scaling up our in-house product offering, generating upwards of $12 million in revenue per year. Although the work may be dated the complexity of these projects was deep and wide.

New Markets

Many products focused on the emerging markets where specific investments were packaged in unique ways. We worked hard to spin up experiences that would meet the needs of these unique investors looking to build portfolios around their differentiated assets.

New Research Tools

Markit had our explore and research new ways to expose data to our users. The goal was often around how we could provide as much context regarding financials and other data that could be researched from many different angles.

Rapid Research

Planning and personas

All of our projects would move through our rapid research process. We would create quick workflow studies, persona briefs, and schedules in order to meet client deadlines. Even with speed being essential, we pushed hard to focus on quality in every product we delivered to market.

Understanding User Types

Unique Products

Mobile Friendly

Mobile First

As mobile phones and tablets gained rapid use 15 years prior, there was a unique push to create products that were mobile friendly. Our team quickly adopted the mobile first approach, despite it being a relatively new model of thinking.

Tablet View

Condensing information into views that worked best for smartphone and tablet views was challenging at first.

Mobile Interactions

We quickly studied to understand how we could create interactions that allowed for touch.

Desktop to Mobile App

Multi-platform approach

Markit’s directory app was a competitor in the social networking arena. Financial leaders and investors wanted ways to network or connect with other peers in the financial industry and chat about the latest happenings in them market. One of the critical aspects of maintaining the network was managing your directory of connections you have made.

Markit Directory

Markit Directory was a project so successful, it spun off to become an independent company. My team and I were able to create an experience that married the technology challenges of record keeping and real-time status with the concept of “Netflix” style selection of profiles.

New Mobile App

The directory quickly evolved into a tool that investors wanted on their desktop 24/7. As part of the translation effort, we explored ways where we could take a mobile first approach to the layout and interactions. This eventually led us to create a desktop widget that felt like a mobile phone experience.
