Establish a vision, mission, and principles.

It is important for design teams to align with the organizations vision, mission, and principles or values. Doing this creates a clear path for understanding how we collaborate cross-functionally and build the right products or features.

Utilize the design toolkit.

I collaborate with my teams to implement and refine processes that optimally support operations within product management, engineering, and other cross-functional departments. The design team’s objective is to align stakeholders with our methodologies, ensuring we deliver solutions that precisely address our customers' needs. The following outlines the process toolkit I employ to position my teams for success.

Architect a repeatable design strategy.

This is my center of thought when formulating and creating design strategies. It is effective, scalable, and repeatable for a design team of any size.

Learn and know the product experience.

Core operations for the teams under my leadership encompass activities aimed at maintaining a comprehensive understanding of our product and upholding the quality of our portfolio of user experiences. In our pursuit of building, enhancing, and optimizing product experiences, we have multiple strategic levers at our disposal. These elements represent fundamental drivers that underpin both the larger design philosophy and operational strategies.

Create a roadmap.

Collaboration is paramount within our design organization. I encourage my teams to actively engage with engineering, product, and design departments to ensure proper work prioritization. This collaborative approach enables us to jointly develop a roadmap that addresses both current and future customer needs. Securing executive buy-in is also crucial in this process, as it provides essential guidance for our design initiatives and OKRs.

Scale the landscape of design impact.

Here is an example of my Product Design Impact Dashboard. It is a great resource to understand the wider impact I can achieve with my teams.
